GOD THE SPIRIT...
Gave us the Scriptures (see sermon "And the Scripture Cannot Be Broken")

Indwells Christians (see sermon "The Spirit in the New Covenant")

Regenerates, renews, transforms, and seals (see sermon "The Work of the Spirit of God In You")

Came upon men to enabled them for miraculous purposes (see sermon "The Spirit of God Upon You", and "Miracles, Signs, and Wonders")

THE WORD OF GOD...(see sermon "And the Scripture Cannot Be Broken")
What we call the Bible

Integrity - we have what God intended for us to have

Inspired - written by God, not man

Inerrant - without error

Authority - for 'faith and practice'

Completed - no more revelation is being given today

MAN...
All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:9-18, 23)

Man's sinfulness causes him to be separated from God and an enemy of God (Isaiah 59:2)

Man's sin make him a slave to sin (2 Timothy 2:26, Titus 3:3, Hebrews 2:15)

Man's sin makes him condemned (Proverbs 12:2, Mark 16:16, 2 Thessalonians 2:12)

Man's sin causes death (1 Corinthians 15:56, Galatians 3:10, Ephesians 2:1, Jude 12)

Man's sin causes him to be evil/weak in heart/mind (Ephesians 4:17-19, Romans 1:21)

Man needs a savior

SALVATION...
Is by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-10) and is a great salvation not to be ignored (Hebrews 2:1-4)

In salvation man receives
Reconciliation – to bring back together, mend a broken relationship (Ephesians 2:11-16)
Redemption – to purchase, to pay a ransom in full (Galatians 3:13, 4:4-5)
Justification – being judged ‘not guilty’ (Isaiah 53:11, Romans 8:1, 1 Corinthians 6:11)
Regeneration – rebirth, renovation, restoring to proper state (Titus 3:5, John 3:3-5)
Sanctification – to make holy, set apart for God’s use (Hebrews 12:14, Acts 26:18)

This is all done by God for and in man.  And is received through our faith.  Faith is what makes our response to God effective.  There are many things which accompany our salvation...
Man is saved by:
HOPE - Romans 8:24
FAITH - 1 Peter 1:5
HEARING - Romans 10:17
CONFESSION – Romans 10:9-10; Matthew 10:32
REPENTANCE - 2 Peter 3:9
PRAYER - Acts 22:16
BELIEF - Romans 1:16; Acts 16:31
OBEDIENCE - Hebrews 5:9
IMMERSION - 1 Peter 3:21
GRACE – Acts 15:11; Ephesians 2:5, 8
CALLING ON THE NAME OF THE LORD – Acts 2:21; Romans 10:13
HIS BLOOD – Romans 5:9
HIS LIFE – Romans 5:10
THE GOSPEL – 1 Corinthians 15:1-2
RECEIVING THE TRUTH – 2 Thessalonians 2:10; 1 Timothy 2:4
REGENERATION AND RENEWING – Titus 3:5
PREACHING – 1 Corinthians 1:21
THE WORD – James 1:21

Salvation will not happen without these things.  These things are not a list of things to be checked off but describe what God has said particularly about being "saved" and "not perishing" and "justification" and having "life" and being "born again".

When a person is baptized into Christ and "put on Christ" they are baptized "into His death".  This is of paramount consequences for when a person is baptized into Christ's death they then receive the benefits of Christ's death.  Think of why Jesus died...

1. AS A RANSOM FOR MANY (Matthew 20:28)
2. FOR THE REMISSION OF SINS (Matthew 26:28)
3. TO TAKE AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD (John 1:29)
4. FOR THE LIFE OF THE WORLD (John 6:51)
5. FOR THE SHEEP (John 10:11-17)
6. FOR ONE PEOPLE (John 11:51-52)
7. TO BEAR MUCH FRUIT (John 12:23-24)
8. FOR THE PRINCE OF THE WORLD TO BE CAST OUT (John 12:31)
9. TO DRAW ALL MEN TO HIMSELF (John 12:32-33)
10. TO PURCHASE THE CHURCH OF GOD (Acts 20:28)
11. JUSTIFICATION AND REDEMPTION (Romans 3:24-25)
12. RECONCILIATION (Romans 5:10)
13. TO CONDEMN SIN TO THE FLESH (Romans 8:3)
14. TO BE LORD OF LIVING AND DEAD (Romans 14:9)
15. TO PURCHASE BODIES AND SPIRITS (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
16. THAT WE MIGHT LIVE TO GOD AND NOT OURSELVES (2 Corinthians 5:15)
17. TO BE SIN THAT WE MIGHT BE GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS (2 Corinthians 5:21)
18. THAT WE MIGHT BE MADE RICH (2 Corinthians 8:9)
19. TO DELIVER US FROM THIS PRESENT EVIL WORLD (Galatians 1:4)
20. TO DELIVER US FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW (Galatians 3:13)
21. TO ADOPT US (Galatians 4:5)
22. THAT WE MIGHT DRAW NEAR TO GOD (Ephesians 2:13)
23. TO UNITE ALL BELIEVERS, BOTH JEW AND GREEK (Ephesians 2:14-15)
24. TO PRESENT A PURE, HOLY, BLAMELESS CHURCH TO HIMSELF (Ephesians 5:25-27)
25. TO MAKE PEACE (Colossians 2:14)
26. TO NAIL THE LAW TO THE CROSS (Colossians 2:14)
27. TO MAKE PUBLIC DISPLAY OF PRINCIPALITIES AND POWERS (Colossians 2:15)
28. THAT WE MIGHT LIVE WITH HIM (1 Thessalonians 5:10)
29. TO REDEEM US AND PURIFY US (Titus 2:14)
30. TO TASTE DEATH FOR US (Hebrews 2:14)
31. TO FREE US FROM FEAR OF DEATH (Hebrews 2:15)
32. TO OBTAIN ETERNAL REDEMPTION (Hebrews 9:12)
33. TO SANCTIFY US (Hebrews 10:10)
34. TO PERFECT US (Hebrews 10:14)
35. TO REDEEM US FROM TRADITION AND FUTILE LIVING (1 Peter 1:18-19)
36. TO BRING US TO GOD (1 Peter 3:18)
37. TO MAKE US PRIESTS AND KINGS TO GOD (Revelation 1:5-6)
Who is the man that will reject these things?  Who is the man who will "refuse the water for these to be baptized"?  What a glorious thing it is to know that the things that were accomplished in Jesus' death can become ours in our baptism into Christ and into His death!
